A graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire, Rik studied classical guitar with international guitarists Craig Ogden and Simon Dinnigan, and composition with composers Andrew Downes and John Mayor.
His relationship with the ukulele and banjo began some years ago when he opened his music school - Poynton Music School in Cheshire, UK. There was so much demand for the ukulele, Rik locked himself away for a while to become proficient in the instrument. Soon he was delivering group classes for all levels of adult learners.
Rik has 30 years instrumental teaching experience and he has also worked in other areas of education, including as a secondary school classroom music teacher and as an English language teacher overseas for the British Council.
As a guitarist, Rik performs regularly for both events and the concert stage, and is well known for being a truly versatile musician and a multi-intrumentalist.
He is also an active composer with a string of international radio, TV and online credits to his name for his music in advertisements, documentaries and information films.
A former 'Young Musician of the Year' contestant, Rik has performed across the country and overseas, and he is one of the few British musicians to have been invited to perform in Belarus, in 2010.
What students say...
'I am so glad to have found Rik Roberts Ukulele as a mature student. It's never too late to learn. It's great to have clear guidance from Rik to enable us to have fun playing a range of songs together'.
'I've done a few of Rik's courses and they never disappoint! I'm on the improvers ukulele course at the moment and really enjoying it. The classes give just the right amount of challenge to keep me working hard to better my skills and techniques. Also, it's great fun to play with a group of like-minded people'.
